ANNE WINSTANLEY WOOD
Anne creates joyful, semi-abstract landscapes which are characterised by layers of gorgeous colours, expressive mark making and rich texture. Her mixed media
paintings explore themes of identity and belonging often linking her northern roots with her present life in Surrey. Her work blends a playful, imaginary quality with a deeper reflection on our relationship with the natural world.
Her abstracted landscapes evolve from layers of acrylic paint, ink, pastels and collage, creating a rich tactile surface that evoke weathered rocks, distant hills and uplifting, lyrical scenes. Little houses, angular trees and stone walls add a narrative quality that captures both memory and place.
Anne has ‘dabbled’ in different arts throughout her life. As a child, she started drawing and painting after visiting her father’s art shop - an ‘Aladdin’s cave’. She also loved dancing, singing and playing the piano so after studying Fine Art she did a Creative Arts MEd followed by primary teaching and music education.
Anne joined the Wildwood Artists in 2024 and feels tremendously grateful for all the support and inspiration she receives from the group.
